Cleft Lip and Palate Program and Qorito Organization History

Many poor children around the country have no access to basic medical care, let alone the timely and appropriate reconstructive plastic surgery they need to lead normal lives.  Few plastic surgeons are available to perform the needed surgeries around the country, because they are concentrate in Lima and few cities.

This reality has to take the initiative to create  a care program and a national referent center  for Cleft Lip and Palate in Lima.

Department of Plastic Surgery was created at Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia in June 2000  for many conditions to be corrected by plastic surgery including facial deformities such as cleft lip and palate.

In 2001 was created the Program for cleft lip and palate. Since  provide corrective surgery and related care for the  poor people.  We apply the protocol and experience learned in Cirplast group led by Dr. Carlos Navarro.

The first mission it was in the Hospital "José Soto Cadenillas" in Chota Cajamarca. Many patients were operated. They were monitored and followed later in the same city in other missions annually, and then complete their treatment in Lima. Several missions are conducted during the following years to Arequipa, Puno Ayaviri, Abancay among others.

Qorito Organization it was created April 5th  2006, when doctors Alberto Bardales, Dante Arce, Victor Huiman, Jaqueline Cruz and  Ulrike Lamle  meet to initiate the activities as a team to support  with private and public institution.

Ulrike Lamle M.D. German physician allows contact with the Organization Cleft Kinder Hilfe, the same as sending funds to treat patients with congenital lip and palate deformities. In this way we can bring more attention to people in different places of the country and the headquarters of the Hospital Nacional Cayetano Heredia.
